How to play

Reversi Rules

Reversi is an 8 by 8 board game for two players. Black moves first, each move flips captured discs, and the player with more discs at the end wins.

The basic move

On your turn, place one disc on an empty square so at least one straight line of opposing discs is trapped between your new disc and another disc you already own. Captured discs flip to your color immediately.

Move checklist

  1. Find an empty square that traps at least one opponent disc.
  2. Check all eight directions: horizontal, vertical, and diagonal lines can flip.
  3. Place your disc and flip every trapped line.
  4. If a player has no legal move, that player passes.

How the game ends

A Reversi game ends when the board is full or when neither player can make a legal move. Count black discs and white discs. The higher count wins; equal counts are a draw.
